Technology Is No Longer Optional in Transportation

Today, moving freight efficiently is no longer just about having a modern fleet or strategic routes. It also depends on the ability to monitor, analyze, and respond in real timeIn this context, solutions like Geotab have become an essential tool for ground transportation companies.

At Zaro Transportation, technology is an integral part of our daily operations. By leveraging telematics platforms like Geotab, we strengthen our logistics processes, enhance safety, and make smarter decisions on the road.

What is Geotab?

When Diesel Prices Rise, the Entire Logistics Industry Feels the Impact

In Mexico, diesel prices affect much more than fuel costs—they directly impact logistics expenses, freight rates, business competitiveness, and the operational efficiency of hundreds of companies.

During the first quarter and early April of 2026, diesel prices continued to rise due to a combination of fiscal policies, global market conditions, and logistics-related factors. When diesel costs increase, the impact is felt immediately across the ground freight transportation industry, especially in a country where most domestic and cross-border trade depends on trucking.

Why Are Diesel Prices Rising in Mexico?

The increase is not driven by a single factor. Instead, it results from several market forces working together.

1. Global Energy Market Pressure

Fuel prices in Mexico remain closely tied to international crude oil and refined fuel markets. Throughout 2026, geopolitical uncertainty and disruptions in global energy supply routes have continued to put upward pressure on diesel prices worldwide.

2. Tax Adjustments and the IEPS Fuel Tax

The final retail price of diesel is also influenced by IEPS (Mexico's Special Tax on Production and Services). Although the Ministry of Finance has implemented temporary tax incentives to cushion price increases, these incentives are adjusted on a weekly basis. During the second week of April 2026, the government increased the diesel tax stimulus to more than 80%in an effort to reduce the impact on end consumers.

3. Distribution Costs and Retail Margins

Diesel prices are affected by more than just crude oil. Storage, transportation, distribution, and fuel station margins also play an important role. Regional price differences can be significant, particularly in industrial hubs and border regions.

How Does This Affect Ground Freight Transportation?

Diesel represents one of the largest operating expenses for trucking companies. For many fleets, fuel accounts for 30% to 40% of total operating costsdepending on the route, equipment, and driving efficiency.

1. Higher Transportation Costs

Every increase in the price per liter raises the cost of every mile traveled. On long-haul routes between Mexico and the United States, these additional expenses can quickly become substantial.

2. Increased Pressure on Freight Rates

Transportation providers are often forced to review freight rates, fuel surcharges, and commercial agreements with customers to offset rising operating costs.

3. Reduced Operating Margins

If fuel cost increases cannot be passed on to customers quickly enough, profit margins begin to shrink.

4. A Greater Need for Operational Efficiency

As fuel prices rise, simply moving freight is no longer enough—companies must move it more efficiently.

How Can Companies Reduce the Impact?

Key Strategies to Manage Rising Diesel Costs

Optimize routes to minimize empty miles.

Monitor fuel efficiency by vehicle and driver.

Perform preventive maintenance to improve fuel economy.

Use telematics and GPS technology to identify inefficient driving behaviors.

Negotiate fuel surcharge programs with customers and business partners.

Simply put, if fuel prices continue to rise, operational efficiency must improve.

What Does This Mean for Logistics in 2026?

For Mexican businesses, rising diesel prices represent more than just another operating expense—they are a clear reminder that logistics must become increasingly strategic, measurable, and efficient.

As nearshoring continues to accelerate, border crossings remain congested, and global market uncertainty persists, controlling transportation costs per mile will become more important than ever.

Diesel Prices May Rise, but So Should Your Strategy

Diesel will continue to be one of the most significant cost variables in Mexico's ground freight transportation industry. Understanding why prices increase is important—but knowing how to respond operationally is what protects profitability, maintains service quality, and strengthens competitiveness.

Today, successful logistics depends more than ever on strategic planning and operational efficiency.

At Zaro Transportation, we combine optimized routes, real-time fleet monitoring, and operational excellence to help our customers move freight with greater control, lower operating costs, and increased reliability. Let's discuss how we can support your logistics needs.

March marks the beginning of a strategic season for Mexico's agricultural industry. As winter transitions into spring, harvest activity increases, driving higher volumes of fresh produce exports to the United States—Mexico's largest trading partner.

For the freight transportation industry, this season brings increased demand for refrigerated trailers, efficient customs coordination, and strict transit time management.

March Agricultural Exports from Mexico: Key Products and Logistics Challenges

According to Mexico's Ministry of Agriculture (SADER) and the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), the following products experience the highest shipping volumes during March:

1. Strawberries

The states of Michoacán and Baja California lead strawberry production. Mexico is one of the world's largest exporters of fresh strawberries to the United States, particularly during the spring season.

2. Avocados

Although avocados are harvested year-round, export volumes remain especially strong in March, with most shipments originating from Michoacán and Jalisco.

3. Tomatoes and Vegetables

Sinaloa and Sonora are among the country's leading producers during this season, supplying large volumes of tomatoes and fresh vegetables to U.S. markets through border crossings in Texas and Arizona.

4. Limes and Citrus Fruits

States such as Colima and Veracruz increase shipments of fresh citrus products to meet growing demand in the United States.

5. Cucumbers and Bell Peppers

These vegetables remain among Mexico's most important horticultural exports and are in high demand at grocery retailers throughout the United States.

The Logistics Impact Along the Mexico–U.S. Border

The increase in agricultural exports leads to:

Higher freight volumes at major ports of entry such as Nuevo Laredo, Pharr, and Nogales.

Increased demand for refrigerated transportation (reefer services).

Longer phytosanitary inspection times.

Greater need for continuous temperature monitoring throughout transit.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Mexico is the leading supplier of fresh fruits and vegetables to the United States, making March one of the most important months for cross-border agricultural trade.

Challenges in Agricultural Logistics

Cold Chain Management

Even a brief temperature deviation can compromise product quality and result in significant financial losses.

Border Crossing Times

Perishable goods require fast, reliable transit to preserve freshness and minimize spoilage.

Food Safety and Regulatory Compliance

Meeting food safety standards, certifications, and inspection requirements is essential to prevent delays or rejected shipments at the border.

What Does an Efficient Agricultural Logistics Operation Require?

To ensure successful operations during the peak agricultural season, companies should focus on:

Advance planning for refrigerated equipment availability.

Close coordination with customs brokers.

Real-time GPS tracking and temperature monitoring.

Optimized routes that minimize delays and idle time.

During March, logistics efficiency can make the difference between a successful delivery and costly product losses.

The Agricultural Season Moves More Than Fresh Produce

March doesn't just boost agricultural production—it energizes the entire supply chain. Transportation companies that understand seasonal shipping patterns are better positioned to anticipate demand, optimize fleet utilization, and strengthen their competitive advantage in cross-border logistics.

In an industry where every hour matters, specialized logistics solutions make all the difference.

Year-End Logistics Challenges and Trends for a Strong Finish

A More Sustainable Year-End Is Within Reach

November and December are critical months for many businesses. It's a time to wrap up annual initiatives, finalize budgets, and prepare strategies for the year ahead. Amid the rush of peak season, logistics often focuses on operational efficiency—but what if this year sustainability became part of the equation?

Sustainable logistics practices aren't just about meeting environmental regulations or corporate commitments. They also help reduce operating costs, strengthen brand reputation, and improve long-term operational resilience. And there's no better time to start: the decisions made today will directly influence logistics performance during the first months of 2026.

Why Talk About Sustainable Logistics Now?

As e-commerce continues to grow, last-mile deliveries increase, and companies face greater pressure to reduce their environmental impact, green logistics has evolved from a competitive advantage into a business expectation.

In fact, industry research such as Green Freight Handbook by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Sustainable Logistics Survey DHL's Sustainable Logistics Survey shows that more than 70% of companies plan to incorporate sustainable strategies into their logistics operations before 2026.

Key Actions for a More Sustainable Year-End

Use this practical checklist to align your year-end logistics operations with a more sustainable approach.

Optimize Routes and Reduce Empty Miles
Leverage intelligent route planning software and consolidate shipments whenever possible to minimize fuel consumption and emissions.

Choose More Energy-Efficient Vehicles
Incorporate Euro V, hybrid, or electric vehicles into urban delivery operations whenever feasible.

Reduce Unnecessary Packaging
Adopt reusable or recyclable packaging materials for seasonal shipments and promotional campaigns.

Train Drivers in Fuel-Efficient Driving Practices
Smoother acceleration and fewer harsh braking events help lower fuel consumption and reduce vehicle wear.

Stay Ahead with Preventive Fleet Maintenance
Well-maintained vehicles operate more efficiently, consume less fuel, and generate fewer emissions.

Monitor Your Logistics Carbon Footprint
Measure CO₂ emissions by shipment or route using tools such as EcoTransIT or the GLEC Framework to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

Finish the Year by Making an Impact—Not a Carbon Footprint

The end of the year offers the perfect opportunity to put sustainable logistics strategies into action. There's no need to wait until the first quarter of 2026 to begin implementing initiatives that can start delivering value in November and December.

Sustainable Logistics Can Also Be Profitable

Sustainability is about more than going green—it's about making smarter business decisions. Companies that begin this transformation today will be better positioned to improve efficiency, meet evolving regulatory requirements, and strengthen their reputation in an increasingly competitive marketplace.

When it comes to trade between Mexico and the United States, supply chain efficiency is the foundation of every successful operation. For exporters along the northern border, producing high-quality goods is only part of the equation. Success also depends on a strategic logistics network that ensures on-time deliveries, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Here's how to build a more effective cross-border supply chain.

What Does Strategic Supply Chain Management Involve?

In an export environment, supply chain management goes beyond sourcing materials. It also includes moving freight efficiently from its point of origin to its final destination in the United States while considering key factors such as:

Selecting the right type of transportation equipment

Choosing the most efficient border crossing

Warehousing and freight consolidation

Customs coordination

Transit planning and delivery scheduling

A well-designed supply chain strategy helps minimize delays, reduce costs, avoid compliance issues, and improve efficiency throughout the entire logistics process.

Top 5 Strategies for Successful Cross-Border Logistics

1. Choose the Right Border Crossing
Selecting the most efficient port of entry can make the difference between a smooth shipment and hours of delay. Some of the most effective commercial crossings include:

Colombia–Laredo International Bridge (typically lower traffic volumes)

World Trade Bridge III (designed specifically for commercial freight)

Ysleta–Zaragoza International Bridge (consistent freight flow and generally less congestion than the central Juárez–El Paso crossing)

2. Match the Right Equipment to Your Freight

Dry van for non-perishable goods

Reefer trailers for food, pharmaceuticals, and temperature-sensitive electronics

ISO Tank Containers for liquid or chemical products

Using the right equipment helps protect your cargo while optimizing trailer capacity and transportation costs.

3. Partner with an Experienced Door-to-Door Logistics Provider
Working with a logistics partner that offers binational operations and extensive door-to-door (D2D) experience helps streamline customs processes and minimize operational disruptions.

4. Plan Around Real Transit Times
Border crossings don't operate under the same conditions every day. Monitor border wait times, anticipate seasonal fluctuations, and always prepare alternative routing options to minimize delays.

5. Consolidate Freight Whenever Possible
A Freight consolidation allows multiple shipments to share transportation capacity, helping reduce shipping costs, improve trailer utilization, and shorten customs processing times.

How Smart Supply Chain Planning Creates a Competitive Advantage

A strategic supply chain enables businesses to anticipate bottlenecksrespond more effectively to changing demand, and remain competitive in global markets.

Smarter Logistics Lead to Stronger Exports

As nearshoring continues to accelerate Mexico's export growth, companies must become increasingly strategic in how they manage their logistics operations. Success isn't just about moving freight faster—it's about moving it smarter through planning, technology, and operational expertise. bien, con planificación y tecnología.

A Practical Guide to Choosing the Right Logistics Partner

Transportation: The Backbone of Your Supply Chain

Not All Freight Carriers Are the Same

Selecting a transportation provider goes far beyond comparing rates. The right logistics partner understands your operation, adapts to your business needs, and delivers the visibility, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency your supply chain demands.

Whether you're transporting food products, automotive components, or general freight, there are several key factors to evaluate before signing a transportation agreement.

Top 5 Things to Look for in a Freight Transportation Provider

1. Equipment and Industry Expertise
Make sure the carrier operates the right equipment for your specific type of freight.

Dry van trailers for general cargo.

Reefer trailers for food, pharmaceuticals, and temperature-sensitive products

Food grade tanker for liquid food products and other specialized bulk shipments

A modern, diversified fleet gives your business the flexibility to handle changing transportation needs.

2. Proven Industry Experience
Choose a transportation provider with a strong track record. Companies with years of industry experience have successfully managed a wide range of operational challenges and typically maintain standardized processes supported by highly trained drivers and logistics professionals.

3. Coverage and Strategic Routes
Verify that the carrier regularly operates in your shipping and delivery locations. If your business depends on international trade, ensure they have experience crossing through major ports of entry such as Laredo, El Paso, and Nogales, with established cross-border operations.

4. Technology and Shipment Visibility
Real-time GPStracking, digital reporting, and logistics dashboards have become essential tools in today's supply chains. End-to-end shipment visibility gives you greater control, improves communication, and provides peace of mind throughout the transportation process.

5. Regulatory Compliance and Customer Support
Your logistics provider should maintain full compliance with transportation regulations and customs requirements in both Mexico and the United States. Equally important is responsive customer service and the ability to resolve issues quickly to keep your operation running smoothly.

Your Transportation Provider Should Be a Strategic Partner

A freight carrier should be more than just a company that moves your cargo. The right logistics partner becomes an extension of your business—anticipating challenges, optimizing routes, supporting seasonal demand, and providing complete visibility across your supply chain.

Choose Strategically, Not Just Economically

Investing time in selecting the right freight transportation provider pays off through lower costs, stronger compliance, greater reliability, and a more resilient supply chain.

At Zaro Transportation, we specialize in cross-border ground freight transportation between Mexico and the United States.

Is Your Supply Chain Performing at Its Best?

In today's increasingly competitive business environment, measuring your Supply Chain performance is no longer optional—it's essential. Companies that fail to monitor their key performance indicators (KPIs) risk higher operating costs, delayed deliveries, and limited visibility into their logistics operations.

A high-performing supply chain depends on accurate metrics that support informed decision-making and keep operations running efficiently.

What Is a Supply Chain KPI?

A Key Performance Indicator (KPI) is a measurable metric used to evaluate the effectiveness of a specific logistics or Supply Chainprocess. From sourcing raw materials to delivering products to the end customer, KPIs help businesses track efficiency, costs, transit times, and overall service performance.

The Most Important Supply Chain KPIs

If you're looking to build a more agile and efficient supply chain, these are the key performance indicators you should be tracking.

OTIF (On Time In Full)

What does it measure?
The percentage of customer orders delivered on time and in full.
Formula
OTIF = (Orders Delivered On Time and In Full ÷ Total Orders) × 100
Why it matters
OTIF is one of the most important logistics KPIs because it measures your ability to consistently meet customer expectations.

Lead Time

What does it measure?
The total time from when an order is placed until it reaches the customer.
Why it matters
Long lead times can reduce customer satisfaction and increase operating costs. Shortening lead time improves inventory management and enables a faster response to market demand.

Transit Time

What does it measure?
The amount of time it takes for a shipment to travel from its origin to its destination.
Why it matters
Transit time helps evaluate carrier performance and identify opportunities to optimize transportation routes or shipping methods.

Total Logistics Costs

What does it measure?
The total cost of logistics operations, including transportation, warehousing, packaging, customs processing, and related expenses.
Why it matters
Tracking logistics costs helps identify savings opportunities and evaluate the financial impact of operational decisions.

Inventory Turnover

What does it measure?
How frequently inventory is sold and replenished during a specific period.
Why it matters
Higher inventory turnover typically reduces holding costs, improves cash flow, and reflects a healthier supply chain.

Inventory Accuracy

What does it measure?
The degree of alignment between physical inventory and inventory records.
Why it matters
Accurate inventory prevents stock discrepancies, reduces unnecessary costs, and improves planning across the supply chain.

How Should You Use These KPIs?

Tracking metrics alone isn't enough. To generate real value, your KPIs should:

Align with your business objectives

Be reviewed on a regular basis

Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives

Using logistics management platforms such as WMS (Warehouse Management Systems), ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), and TMS (Transportation Management Systems) allows businesses to automate reporting, monitor performance in real time, and make faster, data-driven decisions.

Industry Benchmarks

According to McKinsey & Company, organizations that consistently monitor and optimize their logistics KPIs can reduce logistics costs by up to 15% while improving their OTIF performance by more than 10%.

Measure What Matters

Supply chain KPIs are far more than numbers on a dashboard—they're a roadmap for improving efficiency, reducing costs, and delivering a better customer experience.

In today's logistics industry, packaging is no longer just about protecting products or enhancing presentation—it's also about environmental responsibility. Sustainable packaging has evolved from a growing trend into a business necessity, driven by increasing plastic waste, stricter environmental regulations, and rising customer expectations.

Companies of all sizes are now rethinking their packaging strategies to strike the right balance between efficiency, cost, and sustainability.

Why Does Packaging Matter in Logistics?

Packaging plays a critical role throughout the supply chain. It helps:

Protect products during transportation

Improve storage and handling efficiency

Streamline distribution processes

Reinforce your brand's image and values

However, according to the UNEP, approximately 36% of all plastic produced worldwide is used for packaging, and nearly 85% of that packaging ends up in landfills or the natural environment. This makes packaging one of the most significant environmental challenges facing today's logistics industry.

Sustainable Solutions: Materials and Smarter Strategies

Many companies are already transforming their operations by adopting more sustainable packaging solutions.

Alternative Packaging Materials

Recycled and recyclable cardboard offers a durable alternative to conventional plastic packaging.

Bioplastics (PLA and PHA): produced from renewable resources such as corn, sugarcane, or algae, provide compostable packaging options.

Cornstarch and sugarcane bagasse: are biodegradable materials that offer environmentally friendly alternatives without relying on harmful chemicals.

Reusable Packaging Systems

Returnable Plastic Containers (RPCs): are widely used for fresh food distribution and manufacturing supply chains.

Reusable modular containers: reduce waste while simplifying cleaning, storage, and repeated use.

Circular Packaging Strategies

Design for Recycling: Minimize the number of materials used and make packaging easier to separate and recycle.

Eco-Design: Reduce package size and weight to lower transportation costs and carbon emissions.

Smart Labeling: Use QR codes and clear recycling instructions to help customers properly dispose of or recycle packaging materials.

The Numbers Behind Sustainable Packaging

The 83% of consumers say they are more likely to purchase products packaged sustainably.Source: Trivium Packaging, 2023)

Companies that have adopted environmentally friendly packaging solutions have reduced logistics-related carbon emissions by up to 30%. (Source: McKinsey Sustainability Report, 2022)

Widespread adoption of reusable packaging systems could generate more than $100 billion in annual global savings. (Source: Ellen MacArthur Foundation)

How Sustainable Packaging Benefits Your Supply Chain

Implementing sustainable packaging solutions doesn't just benefit the environment—it also creates meaningful business advantages.

Strengthens your company's reputation

Reduces long-term operating costs.

Supports compliance with environmental regulations in Mexico, the United States, and the European Union.

Builds stronger customer loyalty among environmentally conscious buyers.

The Future of Packaging Is Sustainable

Sustainable packaging is no longer simply an option—it's both a strategic business decision and an environmental responsibility. If your company is part of today's global supply chain, now is the time to evaluate how smarter packaging solutions can reduce your environmental impact without compromising operational efficiency.

In the world of high-performing supply chains and international logistics, procurement is one of the most critical stages. Without effective order management, inventory control, and quality assurance, no logistics company can operate efficiently—especially in export and import operations. Simply put, procurement is the heart that keeps the entire supply chain moving.

What Is International Logistics?

International logistics is much more than moving goods from one country to another. It is a complex and strategic network of processes that ensures imports and exports reach their destination on time and in compliance with regulations, while controlling costs and protecting the quality of the cargo throughout the journey.

This discipline plays a critical role in global trade and requires seamless coordination among logistics providers, carriers, customs authorities, and end customers.

Key Characteristics of International Logistics

International logistics involves multiple components and challenges. Some of its key characteristics include:

Multinational Operations: Manages shipments across countries with different regulations, time zones, languages, and currencies.

Multimodal Transportation: Integrates different modes of transportation, including road, ocean, air, and rail freight.

Customs Management: Requires expertise in customs regulations, permits, tariffs, and trade agreements such as the USMCA.

Shipment Tracking and Traceability: Technologies such as barcodes, IoT, and GPS enable real-time shipment visibility throughout the supply chain.

Supply Chain Optimization: Relies on continuous analysis to reduce transit times, lower costs, and minimize operational errors.

Specialized Packaging and Equipment:

Examples of International Logistics

Exporting Auto Parts from Guanajuato to Texas: Requires certificates of origin, the Carta Porte supplement, customs clearance, and dry van transportation to protect the cargo.

Importing Electronics from China to Mexico: Involves ocean freight, customs clearance, warehousing, and domestic ground transportation.

Shipping Pharmaceuticals from Germany to Monterrey: Must comply with health regulations, maintain cold chain integrity, and provide full batch traceability.

Key Regulations in International Logistics

Maintenance That Keeps the Supply Chain Moving

The dry van trailer is one of the most widely used types of equipment in over-the-road freight transportation and a key component of international logistics. It is essential for transporting goods that do not require temperature control. Keeping it in optimal condition not only helps prevent delays but also protects the integrity of the cargo throughout its journey.

In this article, we'll explain how an effective dry van inspection is performed, the best maintenance practices, and why preventive maintenance is an investment that benefits every importer and exporter.

How Is a Dry Van Trailer Inspection Performed?

A dry van trailer inspection should follow a standardized process, especially for logistics companies operating across international borders. Key inspection points include:

Exterior Structural Inspection: Check for cracks, dents, or corrosion on the trailer walls, doors, roof, and floor.

Doors and Weather Seals: Ensure doors open and close properly and that weather seals prevent water and dust intrusion.

Floor Condition: Inspect the trailer floor for wear or damage that could compromise cargo stability and safety.

Lighting and Reflective Devices: Verify that lights and reflectors are functioning properly to ensure nighttime visibility and regulatory compliance.

Brakes, Axles, and Suspension Although these components are primarily inspected on the tractor, the trailer should also be evaluated to ensure stability during long-haul transportation.

Interior and Exterior Cleanliness: Keeping the trailer clean helps prevent contamination, especially when transporting products such as paper goods, dry food products, or electronics.

Best Practices for Dry Van Maintenance

A well-maintained dry van trailer extends its service life and helps ensure safe, reliable operations. Consider these best practices:

Perform preventive maintenance every quarter.

Apply anti-corrosion treatments in humid environments.

Train drivers to identify early warning signs of potential issues.

Maintain detailed service records for traceability.

Store trailers properly when they are not in use.

These practices not only support compliance with international standards but also help prevent costly repairs and cargo losses.

Which Products Benefit Most from a Well-Maintained Dry Van Trailer?

Keeping a dry van trailer in excellent condition ensures the safe transportation of products such as:

Home appliances and consumer electronics

Clothing, textiles, and footwear

Office supplies and paper products

Industrial and construction materials

Furniture, home décor, and household goods

These products require protection from moisture, impacts, and excessive vibration—risks that a poorly maintained trailer may not be able to prevent.

National and International Regulations

Global regulations, including those established by the FMCSA and ISO 1496 , define safety and maintenance requirements for freight equipment.

At México, la NOM-087-SCT-2-2017: Establishes operational requirements related to commercial motor carrier safety, including driver operating conditions. NOM-068-SCT-2-2014 Requires visual and mechanical inspections of commercial vehicles before they are authorized to operate on federal highways.

Beyond What You Can See

A timely trailer inspection can help prevent fines, customs delays, cargo claims, and even traffic accidents. Dry van trailers account for more than 70% of ground freight transportation in Mexico, making proper maintenance a critical operational and business priority.

At Zaro Transportation, every dry van trailer is thoroughly inspected, maintained, and monitored to provide reliable, efficient cross-border transportation services. Whether you're part of a large manufacturing operation or launching your first export shipment, we offer customized logistics solutions that maximize safety while minimizing risk.

A Key Decision for Your Supply Chain

When it comes to freight transportation, choosing between a dry van trailer and a refrigerated trailer (reefer) can make a significant difference in transportation costs, delivery quality, and overall supply chain performance. Each trailer is designed for a specific purpose, and understanding their differences helps you make smarter logistics decisions for your business.

Whether you're shipping electronics, food products, or pharmaceuticals, Zaro Transportation can help you determine the most efficient solution for your transportation needs.

What Is a Dry Van Trailer and When Should You Use It?

A dry van trailer is the most commonly used type of trailer for general freight transportation. It is fully enclosed, protecting cargo from external conditions, making it ideal for products that do not require temperature control.

Benefits of a Dry Van Trailer:

Protects cargo from dust, moisture, and theft.

Lower operating costs compared to refrigerated trailers.

Ideal for packaged goods, electronics, apparel, furniture, paper products, construction materials, and other general freight.

According to Transporte.mx, dry van trailers account for more than 70% of freight trailers used in Mexico's ground transportation industry.

What Is a Refrigerated Trailer and When Is It Used?

A refrigerated trailer, commonly known as a reefer, is equipped with a refrigeration unit that maintains a consistent temperature throughout transit. It is essential for transporting perishable goods and temperature-sensitive products that require strict cold chain management.

Benefits of a Refrigerated Trailer

Preserves the cold chain for food products, pharmaceuticals, flowers, and other temperature-sensitive cargo.

Offers customizable temperature settings ranging from -25°C to +25°C.

Supports compliance with international food safety and health regulations, including FDA and SENASICA requirements.

According to Statista, the use of refrigerated trailers across North America has grown by approximately 9% annually, driven by the rapid expansion of e-commerce and the increasing export of fresh food products.

Supply Chain Requirements: If your shipment is part of a continuous process—such as fresh food distribution—maintaining the cold chain is essential.

Regulatory Compliance: Certain products require specific transportation documentation and regulatory approvals.

Transportation Costs: Evaluate how each option impacts your logistics budget and overall operational efficiency.

At Zaro Transportation, we evaluate your cargo type, logistics requirements, and destination to recommend the trailer best suited to your operation.
Your Gateway to Cross-Border Trade

Importing products from the United States into Mexico has become increasingly common in today's global marketplace. Whether you're an established business or a growing company entering international trade, understanding the logistics and documentation requirements is essential for ensuring a smooth, compliant, and efficient import process.

From selecting the right transportation equipment to preparing the required documentation and managing transit times, every detail plays a critical role in the success of your shipment.

Essential Documents for Importing into Mexico

Accurate and complete documentation is one of the foundations of international logistics. These are the key documents you'll need:

Commercial Invoice: Issued by the seller, this document includes the product description, value, and terms of sale.

Carta Porte Supplement: Mandatory in Mexico since 2022, this transportation document identifies the type of cargo, its origin, and final destination.

Domestic Transportation in Mexico: Between 1 and 5 days, depending on the shipment's final destination.

According to INEGI, more than 70% of imports from the United States enter Mexico by ground transportation, with Nuevo Laredo and Ciudad Juárez serving as the country's busiest land ports of entry.

Tips for a Smooth Import Process

Are you ready to export or import goods? International logistics is about more than transporting cargo; it also requires mastering the right documentation. Having the proper paperwork is essential to avoid delays, fines, or cargo being held at customs. In this guide, we'll explain the most important documents every exporter and importer should know.

Why Is Logistics Documentation So Important?

Every document serves a critical purpose—from declaring the value of your cargo to verifying its origin and legal status. Without the proper documentation, international trade cannot operate smoothly. These documents also allow tax and customs authorities to verify that shipments comply with national and international regulations.

Top 6 Essential Documents in International Logistics

Here are the most common and essential documents required for import and export operations:

1. Commercial Invoice

This is the primary document for an international trade transaction. It contains key information such as:

Seller and buyer information

Product description and quantity

Unit price and total value

Payment and delivery terms (Incoterms®)

Country of origin

2. Carta Porte Supplement

This document serves as proof of the transportation contract. It includes information about the shipper, consignee, cargo weight, type of goods, route, and carrier. It is mandatory for ground transportation in Mexico and must be properly linked to the corresponding CFDI.

3. Certificate of Origin

This document certifies the origin of the goods. It is essential when seeking preferential tariff benefits under trade agreements such as the USMCA. Depending on the applicable requirements, it may be issued or certified by a chamber of commerce or other competent authority.

4. Packing List

The packing list complements the commercial invoice and provides detailed information about how the cargo is packaged, including its weight, dimensions, number of packages, and other relevant details. It also facilitates physical inspections during customs clearance.

5. International Transportation Document (Bill of Lading / Air Waybill)

Depending on the mode of transportation—ocean, air, or ground—a transportation document is issued to confirm receipt of the cargo and its movement to the destination.

6. Customs Declaration

This is the official document submitted to customs authorities. It details the type of transaction, tariff classification, commercial value, country of origin, and destination.

What Happens If a Document Is Missing?

Missing or incorrect information in any of these documents can result in:

Cargo being held at customs

Fines from Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) or foreign authorities

Delays throughout the supply chain

Loss of tax or tariff benefits

Master the Paperwork, Master Your Logistics

In international logistics, documentation is just as important as the cargo itself. Understanding these documents, managing them properly, and staying up to date with regulatory changes are essential to keeping your operations running smoothly and avoiding unnecessary disruptions.

Have Questions About Your Logistics Documentation?

At Zaro Transportation we support you throughout every step of the process, helping ensure your cargo reaches its destination safely, on time, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
Contact us and make your international logistics operations more efficient, seamless, and secure.

The Key Gear Driving the Economy

The manufacturing industry is the engine that transforms raw materials into consumer goods and industrial products. This sector cannot operate without efficient logistics. It relies heavily on freight transportation to move raw materials, components, machinery, and finished products, both domestically and to international markets.

In Mexico, tractor-trailers are the backbone of this operation, connecting manufacturing facilities with customs checkpoints, warehouses, and customers across the United States—Mexico's largest trading partner.

What Does Manufacturing Need to Keep Moving?

Manufacturing requires a strong supply chain that integrates:

Efficient ground transportation (Door-to-Door).

Reliable transit times.

Dry van, refrigerated, and specialized freight capacity.

Efficient customs coordination.

Without these elements, production processes can come to a standstill. According to Mexico's Ministry of Economy, logistics—particularly ground transportation—can account for up to 40% of total logistics costs for many manufacturing companies.

Key Products Transported

During the first quarter of 2025, ground transportation primarily moved:

Automotive parts and finished vehicles

Industrial machinery

Home appliances and consumer electronics

Processed metals and industrial plastics

Textiles and footwear

Exports and the Current Landscape

According to data from INEGI and the U.S. Census Bureau:

Mexican manufacturing exports reached USD $134.004 billion in Q1 2025, representing a 5.5% increase compared to 2024.

Ground transportation was responsible for moving more than 82% of these exports to the United States, with over 1.2 million trucks crossing through major border ports such as Laredo, Nogales, and El Paso.

States such as Nuevo León, Guanajuato, Chihuahua, and Baja California led the export of manufacturing inputs and finished goods.

Key States for Raw Material and Manufacturing Exports

Nuevo León:: specializes in steel, machinery, and automotive products.

Coahuila:: a major producer of automotive parts and metals.

Guanajuato:: a leading automotive and plastics manufacturing hub.

Chihuahua: focused on electronics and aerospace manufacturing.

Jalisco: a key hub for electronics, pharmaceuticals, and machinery.

A Supply Chain in Constant Evolution

Ground logistics has been essential to sustaining the momentum of Mexico's manufacturing industry in 2025. With growing exports, investments in customs infrastructure, and an increasingly professionalized transportation sector, Mexico continues to strengthen its position as a global manufacturing powerhouse and a strategic logistics gateway to the United States.

When we talk about logistics infrastructure that truly keeps the continent moving, few routes are as iconic as the Pan-American Highway. This legendary network of roads stretches from the northernmost point of the Americas to the southern tip of the continent, serving as a vital artery for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between countries. For Mexico and the United States, its importance is not only historical but also economic and geostrateg

What Is the Pan-American Highway and When Was It Built?

The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads extending from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina, with one major interruption in the Darién Gap, between Panama and Colombia. Construction began in the 1930s as an inter-American cooperation project promoted by the Pan American Highway Congress.

In Mexico, the Pan-American Highway was officially inaugurated in 1950 as part of an effort to promote continental integration. It is considered one of the longest highway networks in the world.

Why Is It So Important to Mexico and the United States?

For both countries, this route represents:

A backbone of ground trade under the USMCA.

A critical logistics corridor for international freight transportation, particularly between central and southern Mexico and the southern United States.

A tourism and mobility link that strengthens connectivity between thousands of communities.

Sustainability has become a fundamental pillar of modern logistics. Companies around the world are adopting strategies that not only optimize their operations but also reduce their environmental impact. Among the most notable initiatives are the use of alternative fuels, route optimization, and the integration of electric vehicles into last-mile logistics.

The Use of Alternative Fuels in Freight Transportation

The transition to cleaner fuels is essential to reducing harmful emissions from freight transportation. Natural gas, for example, produces lower nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions compared to diesel, helping improve air quality and reduce the environmental impact of the logistics sector. In addition, natural gas can emit up to 70% less CO₂ than diesel, making it a viable option for more sustainable logistics.

Route Optimization to Reduce Emissions and Fuel Consumption

Efficient route planning is key to minimizing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. By reducing the distance traveled and driving time, companies can significantly lower their carbon footprint. Implementing systems that consider factors such as real-time traffic and weather conditions allows routes to be dynamically adjusted, improving operational efficiency and contributing to more sustainable transportation.

Last-Mile Logistics and the Integration of Electric Vehicles

The last mile represents one of the biggest challenges in logistics, both in terms of costs and environmental impact. Integrating electric vehicles at this stage offers multiple benefits:

Reduced Emissions: By eliminating greenhouse gas emissions associated with internal combustion engines, electric vehicles help reduce the carbon footprint of logistics operations.

Operational Efficiency: Electric vehicles are designed to be efficient in urban environments, facilitating deliveries in congested areas and improving delivery times.

Lower Operating Costs: Companies that have integrated electric vehicle fleets have observed significant reductions in operating and maintenance costs.

In addition, micromobility, which includes the use of electric bicycles and scooters, is gaining ground in urban deliveries, offering agile and sustainable solutions for distribution in hard-to-reach areas.

Conclusion

The adoption of alternative fuels, route optimization, and the integration of electric vehicles into last-mile logistics are essential strategies for moving toward more sustainable logistics. These practices not only contribute to environmental preservation but also offer companies competitive advantages by improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. The transition toward greener logistics is a necessary commitment to addressing today's environmental challenges and building a more sustainable future.

The auto parts industry in Mexico has experienced significant growth in recent years, establishing itself as a key pillar of the national economy. In 2024, the sector reached record levels in production and exports, with several states playing a major role in its development.

Leading States in Auto Parts Production in 2024

During 2024, several states stood out for their contribution to Mexico's national auto parts production:

Coahuila:Led production with a 14.8% share.

Guanajuato:Accounted for 13.8% of total production.

Nuevo León:Contributed 12.8% to the sector.

Chihuahua: Recorded an 8.7% share.

Querétaro: Accounted for 7.9% of national production.

These states have consolidated their position as key hubs for Mexico's auto parts industry.

Export Value and Main Destinations

In 2024, auto parts production in Mexico reached $121.693 billion, with 90% destined for the United States and Canada, representing a total value of $106.070 billion.

Transportation Routes and U.S. Destination Cities

Auto parts manufactured in Mexico are primarily transported by land using heavy-duty freight trucks. The main export routes cross the following border points:

Laredo, Texas: The main point of entry for Mexican auto parts exports, thanks to its infrastructure and connectivity to the U.S. interior.

Nogales, Arizona:Another significant route for transporting goods to the western United States.

Once in the United States, auto parts are distributed to various industrial cities, including:

Detroit, Michigan: Known as the heart of the U.S. automotive industry.

Chicago, Illinois: An important manufacturing and vehicle assembly hub.

Dallas, Texas: A key node in the automotive supply chain.

Comparison Between 2023 and 2024

Mexico's auto parts industry experienced notable growth when comparing 2023 and 2024. According to data from the National Auto Parts Industry Association (INA), production in 2024 reached $121.693 billion, representing an increase compared to previous years.

Benefits of Mexico's Auto Parts Exports to the United States

Auto parts exports from Mexico to the United States offer multiple benefits:

Supply chain integration:Mexico has established itself as a reliable auto parts supplier, strengthening the U.S. automotive industry's supply chain.

Competitiveness:Geographic proximity and trade agreements allow Mexico to offer high-quality products at competitive costs.

Job creation:The auto parts industry is a significant source of employment in Mexico, driving regional economic development.

Tariffs Proposed by the Trump Administration

In February 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican exports, potentially affecting 80% of exports. The measure, justified by concerns related to illegal immigration and drug trafficking, created uncertainty within Mexico's export sector.

Although a 30-day delay was granted for the implementation of these tariffs, the possibility of their enforcement has raised concerns across the auto parts industry. Estimates suggested that, if implemented, the tariffs could result in a 15% decline in the export sector's performance, potentially affecting thousands of jobs and the national economy.

Conclusion

Mexico's auto parts industry has proven to be an essential component of the national economy, with a strong presence in international markets, particularly in the United States. However, recent tariff threats represent a challenge that requires effective strategies to maintain the sector's competitiveness and stability.

Chocolate is highly sensitive to temperature fluctuations. To preserve its quality, it should be transported at temperatures between 15°C and 18°C (59°F–64°F) throughout the supply chain. Exposure to unsuitable temperatures can cause defects such as fat bloom, a whitish coating that affects the chocolate's appearance and texture.

2. Managing Seasonal Demand
During Valentine's Day, chocolate sales can increase by as much as 30% compared to an average month. This surge requires companies to carefully plan production, inventory, and distribution to avoid stock shortages or unnecessary storage costs.

Trade between Mexico and the United States is supported by a comprehensive regulatory framework designed to facilitate the exchange of goods and services while ensuring compliance with customs requirements and quality standards.

Understanding these regulations is essential for companies involved in cross-border operations, helping them streamline processes, avoid delays, and succeed in the international marketplace.

Key Customs Regulations

HS Tariff Classification: Correctly identifying the Harmonized System (HS) tariff classification for each product is essential to determine applicable duties and comply with product-specific regulations. Proper classification also helps businesses identify import restrictions and regulatory requirements, reducing the risk of costly errors. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Required Documentation: Exporting goods from Mexico requires essential documentation, including the commercial invoice and the customs broker authorization (Encargo Conferido). These documents facilitate efficient customs clearance and help prevent delays, penalties, or compliance issues. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Sector-Specific Exporters Registry: Certain companies must register with Mexico's Sector-Specific Exporters Registry (Padrón Sectorial de Exportadores) when exporting regulated products. This registration ensures businesses comply with industry-specific requirements and is mandatory for several strategic sectors. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Preferential Tariff Treatment Under the USMCA: The United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) provides preferential tariff treatment for products that meet the agreement's rules of origin. Since taking effect in 2020, the agreement has modernized key areas of North American trade, including digital commerce, intellectual property, and labor standards. (Source: AE Comercializadora)

Non-Tariff Regulations and Restrictions: In addition to import duties, many products must comply with non-tariff requirements, including labeling regulations, quality standards, and sanitary or phytosanitary permits.

For example, products of animal or plant origin must meet the requirements established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) before entering the U.S. market. (Source: Nomverify)

Trade Facilitation Programs: Programs such as the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) strengthen supply chain security while expediting customs clearance for companies that meet established security standards. (Source: Embajada Americana en México)

Important Considerations

Stay Up to Date with Regulatory Requirements: Keeping current with customs regulations in both Mexico and the United States is essential for avoiding penalties and ensuring smooth cross-border operations. Mexico's legal framework is extensive and includes numerous laws, regulations, and international trade agreements. (Source: Tally Legal)

Work with Customs and Trade Experts: Partnering with experienced customs brokers and international trade consultants can simplify regulatory compliance and optimize import and export processes.

Resources provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) also offer valuable guidance in both English and Spanish for companies engaged in international trade. (Source: Embajada Americana en México)

Understanding and complying with customs regulations not only helps ensure successful cross-border operations but also creates new opportunities in the dynamic trade relationship between Mexico and the United States.
